Guest Post: Andrea's Twist On Skin Care

Hi everyone, today I have another great guest post from the lovely Andrea, who writes the blog No More Twist. Andrea is a fashion designer that creates beautiful clothing and does it all herself. She also has a Youtube Channel where she shares all her tips and tricks on being a fashion designer. Do check her out as her blog is interesting and a great read, and shes super lovely, too!

Ohhh cleansing with oils....as weird as that may sound, it feels so right on my skin. I have oily/combination skin with a problematic chin area. (Curse being female for this!!) Oil cleansing has been the most beautiful way to treat my skin with some respect and gentility, finally!

Images courtesy of:
https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/traditionalcraftsUK?ref=l2-shopheader-name

I discovered this method through hours of Youtube trawling and was dumbfounded! At first I thought no way man! That's just zit city. I was clearly wrong.

Using oil as a cleanser does not cause spots or acne, would you believe. Those skin ailments are usually down to bad diet, hormones and bacteria. When you cleanse with commercial face products all those nasty soaps, chemicals and preservatives actually strip your skin from its natural happy face oils. Therefore your face goes into overdrive, panics and produces an obscene amount of sebum causing your over oily skin. "Oil dissolves oil." By cleansing your skin with lovely natural oils your face doesn't freak out and over produce, it feels it simply has no need to. It will help gently remove the dirty oil and replace it with good, nourishing, healing oil which you can tailor to your skin type.

I use a beautiful smelling oil which I got from a lovely lady at Traditional Crafts, she is on Etsy, find her here:

She has so much information written under each of her products, so you can really tailor you oil choice to your skin type. As I have Combination skin I use the Geranium and Grapefruit All Natural Cleansing Oil alongside her Beauty Sleep Serum. I also use a little Olive oil on reusable cleansing pads just to get rid of the majority of my eye make-up, you can use the cleansing oil, I just don't want to waste it because I wear so much eyeliner!

How beautiful is that packaging too! Traditional Crafts had my items out to me in no time and her shipping prices are really great. She makes everything herself and they smell amazing, all the cleansing oils are 100% natural and are handmade to order! I cannot describe to you how good these products smell! Just soooo very good!!!

Anyway, how do you do it?

Simple really, I like to do mine at the end of the day, you don't need to oil cleanse too much, once a day should be fine. I get myself a nice hand hot jug of water with a lovely flannel in it. If I have stubborn eye make-up on then I will take a reusable cleansing pad with a little Olive oil on and gently wipe away as much of my eye make-up as possible.

After this, I take a small amount, like 10p sized, of my Geranium and Grapefruit cleansing oil into the palm of my hands and warm between my palms then gently massage into my face and neck in upwards motions. Do that for as long as you feel necessary, I find a minute or so is fine.

Leave it to sit there and be all natural and lovely for about 30 seconds then take your hot steamy flannel and place it over your face and let it cool. Then gently wipe away any excess oil. The steaming helps open the pores and draw out any impurities your make-up may have left behind. I then let my skin air dry for a little bit, before either patting a little bit more of the Geranium oil as a moisturiser or moving on to the Beauty Sleep Serum. This I spend a little bit of time working in, it will be absorbed overnight and you will be left with baby soft skin in the morning. I enjoy having dewy well-balanced soft skin now!

Thanks Zoe for letting me post on your lovely site! I assume that if you like beauty, you may also like fashion! If that sounds appealing you can come see my work on my blog at:

January Favourites

w7 In The Buff Natural Nudes Eye Colour Palette: I picked this up back in December from The Clothes Show Live and have since been playing around with the colours. It is good quality for the price and some of the colours are simply stunning. They are easy to blend and last quite well. I love neutral eye palettes as I find those colours easy for me to use. This is definitely worth picking up if you want a great neutral palette but don't quite want to spend almost £40 on an Urban Decay one.

Loreal Paris Collection Privee by Cheryl in Cheryl's Nude: Anyone that knows me well will know I am obsessed with Cheryl, so off course I had to purchase this in hope it would turn my lips into Cheryls. I actually fell in love with the colour after buying it as I find it a really pretty nude which is great for every day. It lasts a few hours before needing to reapply it, and it is quite affordable too if you are after a nice neutral every day lipstick.

Soap and Glory Scrub Of Your Life: When I write Monthly Favourites posts there is usually a Soap and Glory product or two in there somewhere, I have wrote about this scrub many times before, I continue to use it again and again as it is just a great product.

Topshop Lip Bullet in Rockabilly: I immediately bought this when I saw the name of it, as I have been brought up listening to a lot of rockabilly music, I was intrigued to try the lipstick as I don't often find anything or anyone that knows much about rockabilly. I again, brought this because of the name (shame on me) and not the colour, but I actually adore the colour. This is the first piece of make up I have had from Topshop and I was pleasantly suprised at how long it lasts on the lips and the beautiful colour of it, too.

Have any products stuck out to you this January?

Guest Post: Soap and Glory Thick and Fast Mascara

Hi everyone, today I have another guest post from a fantastic and lovely blogger, Amy. I really enjoy reading her blog, you can check it out here. I'll hand it over to Amy!
Hi guys!
First of all, many thanks to Zoe for letting me do a guest post for her lovely blog. :)
I thought that after checking out her product directory, it would be pretty fitting to talk a Soap and Glory product, since it seems she's a fan, and so am I!
I'll be reviewing the infamous Thick & Fast Mascara, which is both loved and hated in the world of beauty enthusiasts.

Anyway, here's what I reckon....

Packaging

In typical Soap & Glory style, the packaging is girly and pretty. What more is there really to say?
Price
This retails for £10, which isn't the cheapest you can get for "drugstore" makeup, but also not the most expensive by any means. I think it's pretty reasonable.

What I reckon....
This, for me, is totally hit and miss!
The formula is a nice jet black, but the brush is HUGE, which is usually fantastic, but can be a bit of a pain for dealing with teeny little lashes.
For me, it did live up to its claims of being volumising (and doing it fast, for that matter), but I do have a problem with my lashes clumping together a little, which sometimes happens when I add more than one coat, which is a shame, although I can usually fix this by giving it a thorough combing through with a spooly brush.
As for lasting power, I'd say this is pretty great! I don't have any problems when it comes to flaking and smudging, and my lashes seem to still look lovely and thick by the end of the day!

All in all...
I think this is a reasonably priced mascara with impressive results. Saying that, I wish Soap & Glory would perhaps downsize the brush to grab my teeny tiny lashes and save me from those irritating smudges on my eyelid.
Overall, a thumbs up, Soap & Glory!

Thank you for the fantastic review, Amy! Do check out her blog its a great read!
Have you tried this mascara too? What are your thoughts?

Batiste Dry Shampoo Cherry

Batiste Dry Shampoo
Fruity and Cheeky Cherry

First off, I must apologize that this can has no lid... I don't know what it is about me, but I always seem to lose the lids off everything I own!
Batiste is a brand I have loved for quite some time, their dry shampoos are one of the best out there for the price, their products smell gorgeous and work really well for my hair.

When I brought this, it was labelled as a 'New' scent, but I have had it for quite some time now as I was working my way through all of the other dry shampoos I already owned.
I have used this a fair few times now, and I have to say it does the job. It leaves my hair feeling less greasy and gives me plenty of volume if I use it while back-combing my hair or styling. The scent is very sweet and pleasant, the only downfall of this is it does leave a residue of white if it is sprayed closely to the hair. It is a little disappointing as the majority of other Batiste dry shampoos I have used haven't done this. I probably will still repurchase Batiste products in the future, but I most likely will pick the brunette version so I wont have this problem again. I am sure it is great if you have lighter hair than me, as my hair is quite dark.
A 200ml tin of this retails for around £2.99 and is available in Boots, Superdrug and online.

My Favourite Lipstick!

I wrote a guest post sharing my very favourite lipstick for my blogging friend Clare's blog, A little Lipstick Blog.
Check it out here!

Soap and Glory Sugar Crush Body Cream

Following my previous post, I am sure you are aware I am a big fan of this brand, and this range!
If you are a huge fan of Soap and Glory I am sure you have looked at this or even tried it before. I adore S&G's original pink scent, but there is something about the very zesty sugar crush scent which really appeals to me. I love lime scents as I find it very refreshing. I have tried a few of the other Sugar Crush products before, but was intrigued to try the body butter cream.

The body butter cream is not quite as thick as the normal body butter (but is still thick) which is nice as I find creamier products a little easier to use. A little goes a long way with this, as it spreads evenly using the smallest amount, so it lasts a while! The scent is gorgeous and lasts well on the skin, I have even been complimented on my 'zesty scent' and asked what perfume I am wearing, just from applying this a few hours before. The butter cream feels soft on the skin, and leaves it feeling smooth and soft.
If you are a huge fan of the scent, use the body wash and the body scrub before hand as it leaves you smelling gorgeous and makes me feel wide awake and refreshed!

You can purchase this product for £10.50 from Boots in store or online here.

Soap and Glory Sugar Crush Body Scrub

RRP £8 for 500ml

Being a huge Soap and Glory fan, I have grown a vast collection of their products over the past few years. A newer favourite of mine has to be their Sugar Crush products, which smell gorgeously of lime, lemon and brown sugar.
I picked up a gift set recently in the sales which included a 50 ml tub of the Sugar Crush Body Scrub. I have owned this previously in full size and loved it, so I was glad to pick it up again and thought it deserved a mention on this here little blog.

I find this scrub to be a gorgeous wake up call for a shower in the morning, as it simply smells so fresh and awakening. The scrub itself is of a good quality, and feels moisturizing on the skin. It makes the skin feel soft and smooth, and the beads in the scrub aren't harsh like you can sometimes find in other body scrubs. It is great to use to exfoliate and rids of any dead skin on the body.

I would recommend trying this out if you are a big fan of body scrubs and exfoliating and love a zesty, fruity scent.

Hopes and Goals for 2014

I have never really stuck to New Year resolutions as I am just not that strong - willed. There are a few things I would like to achieve this year which I am hoping to document here on my blog. I hope this will give me more of an incentive to stick at these goals and complete them. It is only a short list at this moment in time, as I don't want to flurry myself with loads of aims and feel rubbish if I haven't been able to achieve them. These 3 goals I feel are achievable if I work hard and become more confident in myself.

1. Lose weight.
This is the 'big one' I want my main focus to be on this year. I am unhappy with my weight and body shape, diet and lifestyle, so I hope to change this area of my life in a positive way this year.

2. Pass my driving test.
I have been learning to drive for quite a while now, this is something I want to tick off my list this year as I feel it is a life skill I will need in the future (although I don't particularly need it now) I don't want to regret not following my learning through now in years to come.

3. Be more confident and try new things.
There are lots of things I want try but I am so unconfident in my own abilities and I am so painfully shy I feel it holds me back. I want to do something new this year, be it joining a club, making new friends or starting a new hobby.

Have you made any resolutions or goals for the year 2014?

Products I Regret Buying

Products I Regret Buying

As a beauty blogger and self - confessed make - up junkie, sometimes I buy things hoping for the best and I am left disappointed. I love reading rave reviews about products, but I find it so helpful when I find a blog post about things that have left the consumer disappointed. It gives a good heads up to think more about picking it up myself. I have devised a post sharing with you four products I have been disappointed with. Off  - course this is all of my own opinion, others may love these products but this is me giving my two cents.

MUA Matte Perfect Primer
Being a huge fan of MUA products, I bought this hoping it would be a great product. Unfortunately, for me, it seemed to just clog up my pores and really didn't work for me. I didn't like the consistency of the product, and didn't feel it controlled my oily skin at all, as it is advertised to. I think it is probably because it is a matte primer, which is probably not the best for my skin type, so this off course is not MUA's fault. I was just a little disappointed it didn't work for me, but hey-ho, you win some you lose some!

Revlon Precision Lash Adhesive
I picked this up in hope to improve my false lashes staying put for a longer amount of time. I picked out the clear drying white version. Thinking this would be better than the tiny samples you get in a pack of lashes, I gave this a whirl and was left a little disappointed. I found the adhesive didn't hold false lases down well at all, in fact it seems the same quality as the sample adhesives included in cheap eye lash packs. I tried the glue with various cheaper and higher ended false lashes, but I had the same problem. Maybe I am just not cut out to wear lashes, or I am awful at applying them (I am) but I felt a little disappointed with Revlon as a brand as the products I have purchased from them before have always been of an outstanding quality.

Soap and Glory Arch De Triumph
I was disappointed with this eye brow product which aims to help highlight and shape your brows. The brown side of the pencil was not pigmented enough to fill in my brows. This was the only colour available, so I wasn't sure whether the product is aimed for people with lighter coloured hair, or perhaps it is aimed for those with fuller brows that don't need quite as much filling in as I do. I found the highlighter end of the pencil quite chalky and didn't blend well at all. I would not purchase this product again.

Jelly Pong Pong Wide Awake Palette
Firstly, I was very confused about this palette. It includes 3 shimmery shadows designed for eye brows, is it just me that finds this odd? I did try these colours on my eye - brows and frankly it looked ridiculous. My sister has used them as eye - shadows and says they are OK quality, I just don't understand why they have been designed for brows, as I cant imagine ever using them for that purpose. Along with this, there are mini tweezers and brush which are of quite a good quality, The palette also includes a highlighting cream and illuminating cream which are of a decent quality. They don't do the greatest job and I wouldn't buy it again, but the creams are the best part about this palette. The packaging is very cheaply put together, and the stickers are ripped and not straight. I was really disappointed with this, as I know packaging isn't everything, but this particular product retails at £15 which is pretty expensive for something so poorly made. Maybe it was just a on - off, but I found it very disappointing and a waste of money. I do wonder what on Earth the creator of this palette was thinking, as putting these products together to aim for a 'wide awake' look doesn't make sense to me.

Are there any products you think are not worth buying?

Favourite Songs of 2013

When I first created my blog, I wasn't sure which direction I wanted to take it. I am interested in lots of things so I scatter it all across this wee blog. I write about just about everything; music being one of them. I am always listening to music when I'm at home, and my iPod is always glued to me when I leave the house. I thought I would share a few of my favourite songs of 2013 with you, what was your tracklist to 2013?

James Blunt - Bonfire Heart
I have never really been a huge fan of James' Blunt's music, but I loved this single when it was released. Its a very sweet song with beautiful lyrics.

Bastille - Pompeii

Another random song I loved in 2013, is by the wonderful Bastille. The song is so catchy and I love the music video. I really like their sound.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis - Same Love

This song is simply breathtaking, it speaks words. It is a song which touches on how some same sex relationships are misjudged and the prejudices that some people suffer from. Its a beautiful song everyone should listen to.

Eminem - Rap God

This isn't a song I thought I would be listening to as much as I did, but it is really catchy and I really like it.

Avicii vs Nicky Romero - I Could Be The One

Not usually into dance tracks, but this one is a good one! It is really catchy, the video is definitely worth a watch, I love it.

I have surprised myself writing this post as the majority of the music listed isn't the type of music I would normally listen to, it is all very random. What were your fave songs?

Bomb Cosmetics Candle in Secret Santa

Bomb Cosmetics Candle In Secret Santa

I love candles, and jumped at the chance of owning some Bomb Cosmetic candles when I spotted them at an event recently. I bought two, one of them being Secret Santa. I know Christmas is over now, but I am pretty sure you can still purchase this now online for a festive treat for yourself, save it 'till next Winter or even pick it up for a super early Christmas present for next year!

As you can see it is beautiful presented. Bomb Cosmetics candles are all hand made so you can see the thought that goes into their products. The notes in this candle are spicy ginger, caramel and vanilla. It smells very sweet and festive, it fills up a room.

I love tinned candles as they are so much easier to reuse or dispose of after you have burnt the entire candle. This costs £7.99 from Bomb Cosmetics, which I feel is a reasonable price for such a strong scented candle. The website suggests the burn time for this candle is approximately 35, which I agree with.

You can purchase this candle from their website here.

Lush Santa's Lip Scrub

Lush Santa's Lip Scrub

I was unsure to feature this on my blog as it is now unavailable, but I really liked the concept of the product so I thought, why not? Offcourse Christmas is all over now, and Lush wont have these in stock anymore until next October time when they bring back all the Christmas lovelies; including my favourite Snow Fairy.

I have never tried a lip scrub before, and I knew that Lush were well known for their great products. I was unsure whether to buy this one of the popcorn, but chose this one as it smells just like cola bottles! It is very refreshing on the lips when they are chapped or dry, leaving them feeling much better. This is edible too which is quite a good concept really!

Have you tried any of the other Lush Lip Scrubs? What do you think of them?

Sleek Blush in Rose Gold

Rose Gold £4.49

This blusher seemed to mix up quite a stir thanks to the popularity of rose gold amongst the beauty and fashion obsessed blogging world, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it but it became almost impossible to find in any of my local stores. I finally picked it up a few weeks ago, and as blushers are my weakness, I couldn't wait to give it a go!

My first impression was that the colour was very pretty; a very baby pink with a coral undertone to it. As you can see, there is quite a lot of gold shimmer to it.
The product is very pigmented, so only a little on your blush brush is needed, or use a light hand.
The blusher is a very warm toned product. As the blusher has copper/gold tones to it, it works well as a two in one product as a highlight and contour.
Rose Gold is often compared to NARS Orgasm, I don't own the infamous blusher myself but I do think this is a great product, which gives a beautiful colour to your cheeks.
With a very reasonable price of just £4.49, I would recommend picking it up yourself!

My 5 Favourite Beauty Products of 2013

Top 5 Beauty Products of 2013

This is up a little later than I hoped it would be, but Happy New Year lovelies I hope it is a good one for you. I have seen so many of these 2013 favourite posts flying around the blogging world, I really enjoy reading them and seeing what everyone else has been adoring in the year of 2013! Here is my little list, I have narrowed it down to just five products I feel are worth mentioning.

MUA Pro - Brow Eye Brow Kit: I love filling in my eye brows, and this little kit has been my ultimate sidekick of 2013. Infact, I think it is my favourite product of the entire year! It comes complete with mini tweezers, (which are fantastic by the way!), a brush and 3 powders for your brows, along with the wax. I use this product every single day as I find it to be the best brow kit I have come across so far; I even prefer it to the HD Brows Brow Kit! It is so affordable and such good quality, I cant recommend it enough.
Available at Superdrug for £3.50

Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation: This foundation is a great match for my skin tone. I use Light Porcelain which is the perfect colour for my pale skin. I am super pale and find it very hard to find a foundation that doesn't look too dark or orange. This blends perfectly and gives a great medium cover finish. I have repurchased this about 5 times this year, it certainly is the best foundation I have come across so far.
Available at Superdrug for £6.99

Mac Powder Blush in Well Dressed (Satin): I was so excited to try this blush, as it is my first MAC blusher. The colour is very subtle and natural, it is quite pigmented. I find using the Real Techniques Blush Brush the perfect tool for applying this. It is the most beautiful pale pink which really suits my skin tone, I have worn it so much in 2013 it quickly became my favourite.
Available at Mac for £18

Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy 50ml EDP: I must be honest and say this is my first Juicy Couture perfume, and I bought it quite later on in the year, but I instantly fell in love with the heavenly scent and has fast knocked off all my other favourite perfumes. I find the scent very sweet and a little fruity, it lasts well all day. I cant wait to try out other Juicy Couture scents.
Available at Debenhams for £47

MUA Undress Me Too Eye shadow Palette: As you can see this palette is very well loved. I use this every day, I have hit pan on my most used shades. It is the perfect neutral eye shadow palette and is so affordable at only £4, the quality of the shadows is pretty amazing for the price, and all of the eye shadows bar one, are super pigmented and last all day.
Available at Superdrug for £4

What were your top 5 of 2013?

Review: Chloe Sims Starship 1 Hour Tanning Mousse

Chloe Sims Starship 1 Hour Tanning Mousse*

Today I am reviewing a new product from The Only Way Is Essex's very own Chloe Sims. She has such sought after glowing tan, I would be crazy not to want to try out her new tanning mousse! I have such pasty, pale skin, and I have never been able to achieve a natural sun tan. Tanning products are a great way of having that healthy glow for a special occasion or even every day. I was thrilled when given the chance to try Chloe Sims new tanning mousse. Being a big fan of The Only Way Is Essex during the first two series, I really wanted to give it a whirl and to see if it really did give a tan Chloe would be proud of.

Before applying, I ensured to exfoliate before using the tanning mousse, as this is essential. Once applying the product over the body it began to develop slowly. It wasn't streaky when you apply it, and it dries quickly within about 10 minutes. It developed into a lovely natural glowing tan, which didn't look orange! The colour of the tan is a light brown, but it develops over time. I found it easier to use the product sparingly, as a little goes a long way. The mitt is great to use with the product, and is super cheap coming in at under £3 which also includes gloves.

The product doesn't have that typical 'biscuit' scent while putting it on - it does slightly smell a little oat-y a day later, but it is certainly not over-powering like other tan mousses. One thing I was super pleased about was that it didn't stain the bed sheets at all. It lasts well for a few days, and once topped up the tan looks darker. Overall, I think the tan looks quite natural; is easy to use, doesn't look patchy, making it look equal and even all over. I think the product is worth the money of you have the money to spend on tanning products, I would purchase it in the future and would recommend to a friend if they were looking for a good natural tanning mousse and had the money to spend

Below you can see the before and after pictures. I think the pictures speak for themselves!

Before                                              1 Hour after application

One Day After Application

The product is available from Boots and www.thestoretv.com for £24.95.

Mac Mineralize Foundation

Mac Mineralize Foundation
SPF 15

I often have trouble picking a foundation to suit my skin tone, as I am so very pale I find it very difficult to find a foundation that does not make me look orange. About 8 Months ago I decided I would purchase a Mac foundation. The make up artist recommended this very product, and having applying it on for me I wasn't so sure. I am used to using liquid foundations and I was scared a cream based foundation would be a little too thick and look cakey. I found it a little difficult to use the first few times I applied it to my face at home, but the Real Techniques Buffing Brush is a great tool for this.

I was expecting much more coverage from a Mac foundation, this particular foundation gives a Medium coverage. If you are looking for a heavy coverage, this one is probably not for you. I have oily skin so I was worried this would go a little patchy throughout the day, but it works great with a bit of powder to keep it in place. I use this foundation most days, but if I am after a heavier coverage, I mix a little liquid foundation with this to make it more of a cover up. I think this foundation is great for every day wear. It gives the illusion that you aren't wearing any make up, but hides most blemishes. It does make my skin feel a glowing and look soft.
