Trying to be more healthy, suggestions?!

New Changes in My Diet and Well-being!

Hey lovelies, hope you are all well.
I have been contemplating doing this for a while now but keep putting it off and off. I think it is about time I cut out all of the junk food out of my diet, do more exercize and lose this weight. I have been struggling with my weight for the last 3 or 4 years. I was an average size 10 until I was about 18. From the age of 14, I walked everywhere, I did 2 gym classes a week and I also did a dance class once a week up until I was 18. Once I was 18, then the weight started to pile on. I started weight watchers the following Summer as I had gone upto a size 14/16, and wanted to get back into a size 10. After 6 months I lost the weight and was finally back into a 10. Fast forward 2 years I have once again piled on the weight plus more, I am really proud to be a curvy girl but my weight just doesn't suit me at all I don't think. I would never lose weight or change my appearance on behalf of others, or care what others thought. I just don't feel comfortable in my own  skin at the minute. I need to lose my weight and stay at a steady weight.

Food and Diet
Currently, my diet on a typical day is as follows:

Breakfast: 2 large cups of strong coffee with sugar and sweetners
Lunch: Packet of crisps, coffee and an energy drink
Dinner/Evening Meal: Typically a cooked meal with 2 vegetables, potato and meat.
Drinks throughout the day: A lot of coffee, a cup of tea, hot chocolate before bed, small bottle of water.
On a night time (after my dinner) I tend to eat a lot of rubbish then. I have pretty much always skipped breakfast, and don' t often eat a proper meal for my lunch, so tend to get really hungry come nighttime. I eat 2 packets of crisps, 2 bars of chocolate, occasionaly a piece of fruit, biscuits, you name it. All rubbish!

I also want to decrease the amount of caffiene I drink in the day. I sort of rely on it to wake me up, as I drink A LOT of coffee, tea, energy drinks and caffeined drinks like Dr Pepper and Coke. It gives me very bad headaches if I don't drink the amout I normally drink, and surely this isn't healthy. I have also noticed that my teeth are begining to slightly stain from all of the caffiene I consume, so definitely want to begin to cut it out a little.

Exercize
I don't do any form of exercize other than walking. I walk to and  from work, which in total is about 4 and half miles altogether.
It sounds a lot but it takes me about 50 minutes each way, in total making that just under 2 hours. I think I need to walk a lot faster for this form of exercize to make more of an effect.
I also need to begin to do other forms of exercize, and hoping to join a gym class once a week, as I previously did this and enjoyed it. I need to stop relying on being driven to certain places also.

Health
I need to take better care of myself. I am always cold, always seem to have a cough and a cold, and constantly suffer from a sore throat. I also suffer from a few other medical problems which are not at all related to my weight, but I believe that by losing my weight and being more healthy this area of my health will also improve.

I will be keeping a fortnightly update here on my blog on my journey, if any of you are interested :)

I definitely need some courage and support as I struggle to it alone and find the motivation. Are any of you struggling with losing weight and being more healthy?
Please contact me if you do!
What are your thoughts or suggestions on how to stay at a healthy weight?
xx

  2. I'm currently trying to lose weight at the moment too and have lost 9lbs so far. I've done this by forcing myself to eat breakfast (I hate eating in the mornings, but it kick starts your metabolism), not snacking between meals (and if I have to eating fruit) and doing 40 minutes of moderate exercise 5 days a week. It's hard going, but I'm already seeing results :) Feel free to drop me an email anytime if you want a friendly ear to rant to because I know how frustrating it is! x

  3. Zumba is really good! it's fun and doesn't actually feel like you are exercising, also i got a Wii Fit and i love it, it's also fun and it moitors your weight and BMI and you do actually lose wight with it, even if you only do half an hour a night. again it's fun and doesn't always feel like you are being forced into exercising.
Also make sure you eat something for breakfast, as it's the most important meal of the day! even if its just cereal its curbs your hunger pangs until lunch time and stops you snacking.
Also not eating after like 8 at night helps with your metabolism and digestion!

    :)

Good luck with it all!! xx

  4. I agree with the Zumba comments, me and my mum have been going to Zumba 2 times a week and its so much fun. The good thing about Zumba is it doesn't matter how experienced you are or your weight. My mum is a size 22 and I'm a size 10 and we both enjoy it and get a lot out of it. If you would prefer to exercise at home I absolutely love Davina McCalls workout DVD's especially Ultimate Target thats so good and actually fun. I am no longer on a diet but I did diet for 8 weeks and lost 10lbs. I found cutting my calorie intake was the best way, I limited myself to 1200-1300 calories per day (which is perfectly fine to do btw). Sign up to www.myfitnesspal.com to keep a food diary if you need. Finally I found drinking Green Tea to really help, its a great detox for the body and when I was drinking it my skin completely cleared up, I drank about 4-5 cups a day.

So basically, do it the old fashioned way, its always best, cut down on the calories and exercise 2-3 times a week. If you do this you will be guaranteed to lose weight.

    1. I need to get myself to a Zumba class now! Hehe. That's a great suggestion actually it didn't even cross my mind, I'm gunna have a nosey in HMV at the fitness DVDs tomorrow now :)
I struggle with counting calories, I remember when I was on weight watchers that was the one thing I couldn't stand reverting all the calories to the points. I really need to take more note though so I know how much I am actually putting into my system.

Thanks hun for all of your help and advise :) xx

  6. I started Weight Watchers in February I was a size 12-14 and I am now an 8. I did it for myself when I was doing my final major project at Uni I put loads of weight on from being stressed and not doing anything so I decided enough was enough. It was very hard at first I just wanted to eat junk food and quit completely but I didn't I carried on and told myself even if I was losing a pound a week it was fine. I really learnt how to eat more vegetables than i have, with weight watchers you can still eat crisps just cut down to one pack instead of two you can have skips, monster munch and if you buy weight watchers choc bars you can have one of those also and they actually do taste nice. With coffee I drink alot and i kept on having it just with skimmed milk and fizzy drinks diet coke is no points! Hope this helps a little, set your mind to a goal and you will get there.

    1. I did weight watchers before they changed the points system to the pro points (is it called that?) and I enjoyed it but struggled with the converting the calories to points and noting it all down. It sounds you did really well on it though! Thanks so much for all the info and advice I really appreciate it :) xx

  7. You're doing so well Zoe.
It takes a lot to deciode to change how you're living for the better of your health and self esteem!
I think despite like not enjoying it and things- its definitely healthy to eat breakfast, it might make you feel better in yourself. Just a suggestiona anyways!
I'm behind you 100%, as I'm sure the rest of the blogging community is, and I really look forward to seeing how it goes.
Good luck Zoe- you deserve every happiness :)

    Love, Elizabeth xx
